First Reading Assignment
Please read chapter 1, "Sunset Towers," and Chapter 2, "Ghosts or Worse," and remember to take notes as you read... even the smallest detail can reveal the murderer! Next, answer the following questions for this week's posting: At the end of Chapter One, we are told that one of the tenants was a mistake; which tenant do you think this is and why? I think that Jake Wexler is the mistake because he didn't ever approve what Barney Northrup was making his wife think it was all very beautiful and because he doesn't like a single thing about
Sunset Towers especially the light that blinds his eyes.
Also, what Chris notices through his binoculars is a man or lady limping inside the Westing house and then smoke started coming out of the chimney.
I think that Barney Northrup was the murderer because it said in the book that there was no such thing as that Barney Northrup. I think he's the murderer because he probably doesn't want to reveal his name because then people will start getting suspicious and think it was him. I also think that he was the person who limped into the Westing house and the person who was watching over Chris and made him feel weird.

I agree with #21. Jake Wexler is the mistake because he was kind of acting strange because he kept on watching Barney Northrup. I think Barney was the one that killed him because it said he was lying to his buckteeth and its odd he was trying to get him to buy the apartment.
I wonder why Chris was siting in the coffee shop telling him self to relax maybe he knew who killed him. Or maybe he saw the kill.
I don't realy think the delivery guy realy ded because Barnet Northtab told him that he was ded and I don't belive him at all.
So thats who I think was the killer the mistake and who was acting strange I might be right or I might be wrong i hope I'aqm right.

Good job of using specific proof from the story to back up your accusation! What makes you think Barney was the one limping into the house? Was it just because his name is so suspicious?
Excellent deductions... and you're right about one thing: there's definitely more to Barney Northrup than meets the eye. But is he a murderer?
Maybe Jake was acting strange because he suspects something's up with Barney Northrup, too... and if Barney is the murderer, why is he still hanging around? Shouldn't he be making his great escape and leave the scene of the crime? Why try to get everyone to buy apartments in Sunset Towers?

It's a fun book to read... especially with all this rainy weather we're having! Grab a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and a cozy blanket and enjoy. ;)
